Frugal, thrifty and alternative uses for
Coffee

Using products you have around the home for other jobs

We all have the occasional Coffee Grounds or Beans which have sat in the Kitchen Cupboard for a wee bit too long, but before you through them, or anything away, check out they could have some very thrifty and frugal uses.

1. Ant Repellant

For some reasons Ants aren't like me and detest the smell and taste of Coffee. Grind some coffee up into a powder and sprinkle over any Ant Hills or Nests

2. Protect Plants from Cats

Cats aren't too keen going to the toilet where there's Coffee, so if you want to keep everyone and sundries Cats away from your newly grown plants, mix some orange peel with it and encircle each Plant accordingly

3. Garden Maggot repellent

Before sprinkling your Carrot seeds into the Soil, add some powdered Coffee to them. This is a natural and organic way to rid any root maggots.

4. As a Deodorizer

Coffee can be used in the same way as Bicarbonate of Soda when it comes to ridding yourself of unpleasant odours in the Fridge or Sink drain. For a Fridge, put some beans into a bowl and leave, in a Sink Drain, put some beans down the plug hole and slowly pour boiling water into it and leave.

5. Clothes Dye

If you want to change the colour of your T Shirt to brown (can't think why!), wash the shirt with coffee. Note this will not be colour fast and will fade on each wash.

6.Breath Freshener

If you've had one of those meals which tends to hang on your breath, have a few Coffee Beans in your pocket. Sucking on a Coffee Bean will quickly get rid of unpleasant odours plus of course, being a deodorizer, it'll keep your pocket fresh as well!!

Coffee Filters

1. In the Microwave

It is quite safe to use Coffee Filters in a microwave oven, so use them for covering a bowl or plate thus avoiding spitting onto the walls of the oven

2. Serve Wraps

If you buy the nicer design Coffee Filters, they can look really good as Food Wraps.

3. Air Freshener

Place some bicarbonate of soda inside a filter, tie up the tops and hang anywhere where you want to keep an area fresh.

4. Plant Pot Liner

Placing a Filter at the bottom of your pot will retain water and stop wastage through dripping. Some people place them in the ground around Runner Bean seeds when sowing thus retaining rain water or from a watering can when there's a drought.

5. Glass Cleaning

Coffee Filters are lint free so are safe for cleaning spectacles, mirrors and windows.

Coffee can last forever if you use it for other jobs

It is inhumane, in my opinion, to force people who have a genuine medical need for coffee to wait in line behind people who apparently view it as some kind of recreational activity.  I bet this kind of thing does not happen to heroin addicts.  I bet that when serious heroin addicts go to purchase their heroin, they do not tolerate waiting in line while some dilettante in front of them orders a hazelnut smack-a-cino with cinnamon sprinkles.  ~Dave Barry
