I’ve been doing a bit of reading around and figured out the following on water useage around the home – and my calculations seem to go along with the ‘official’.

If a household has two people living in it, here’s the weekly toll…

3 baths each per week – 420 lit
2 Showers each – 140 lit
Brushing teeth 2 per day – 42 lit
Toilet (ave 8 each per day)- 1008 lit
Washing Up (3 per day) – 140 lit
Washing Machine (4 per week) 400 lit

Total = 2150 litres per week = 111,800 litres per year !!

In fact, according to the Water Boards, the average household uses 150,000 per year.

But the most staggering statistic I found was that each year, 100,000 litres of water falls on the average house roof in the UK !!

I’m not saying this should ALL be resourced, for instance it is said that drinking rain water is not good for you, but it is good for many things like washing etc.

In the garden, a hose will waste away 10 litres of water per minute, so for those who walk past the lush green gardens with the hose going for 12 hours on a hot sunny summers day – think about it!!

Some Local Councils give away water butts, especially to those over the age of 60. Some don’t supply them free, but they are obtainable usually at reasonable prices, so before zooming down the DIY store, check out the Council first.
Needless to say, frugal folk will use almost anything. I found a huge tea urn and looking around the skips, there are options about !!

Surely, those who have been denying global warming are now seeing the evidence more clearly?

It’s time to act. It won’t ‘save’ us, but it may save our children to come. We look back at our forefathers with varying views – what are they going to say about us in 2200 – if there’s anyone round atall!
