Re: Have you started stocking up for ... Christmas?

I have a total ban on Christmas, so I have not and will not. )x3( >el< >hum< .santa. ilona fair comment - that's your prerogative. The topic title specified Christmas with reference for those who might be considering the options available in the coming weeks but I guess no-one is interested or give...

Have you started stocking up for ... Christmas?

With the news of possible "panic buying", have you started putting stuff in the shopping trolley already (whether as a result of the news or going about your normal pre-Christmas shopping / preparations) or will you be leaving it to the last minute? I have to confess I'm probably about 2 weeks ahead...

Re: Piano / keyboard thread

Just a quick update of my progress (or lack of?) Since I started going back to work (as in, to my actual place of work), it has had an impact on the time I wanted to put in for keyboard practice. I tried getting up earlier to put a quick session in but with also wanting to leave early (to miss the t...

Re: Should we expect more coughs and colds this winter?

I can't decide whether I've picked up a cold or crossed paths with an allergen, but currently I have got the sniffles after a couple of sneezing bouts yesterday. As I've been nowhere other than at work (3 days last week, didn't go out over the weekend not even to the shops, and 2 days this week), it...

The Earthshot Prize - BBC1

BBC programme
The series so far seems to be showing a positive spin on some of the local efforts made across the world rather than focusing just on the problems. Some are simple solutions with big results.

Re: Cheapest Petrol Prices in your Area

)c( I filled the car up with petrol this morning - £1.33p/litre. I had to work from home on Friday because the car was low on fuel (last time I filled up was the last week of August) - I did a 10 mile round trip and all the filling stations were coned off with "no petrol" signs. I wasn't convinced w...

Perhaps the topic title needs renaming ..

...to: Available Petrol in your Area )run( Not really a laughing matter, especially as pumps run dry and any petrol is better than no petrol. I really do need to fill my car up (it's less than half full and won't last the week) but I didn't even bother looking for a garage this weekend as I expected...

Re: Strictly Come Dancing back

Strictly Come Dancing 2021 - first live Saturday dance last night and I was really impressed with just about everyone. I didn't think the judges scores were even throughout the night - some of the later dances were getting high scores even though they weren't that much different in skill than the ea...

Re: Spiky cucumbers

"spiky" cucumbers tend to be the variety most likely for growing outdoors ... and yes, they are prolific fruit producers. No wonder it is doing exceptionally well in a greenhouse. They have more flavour than those that should be grown under cover, and because they are normally grown outdoors, the sk...

Re: Piano / keyboard thread

I agree that's it's easier to play something when you know how it goes - I think it's the timing. I start playing the notes, then get a feel for the rhythm of the tune and it goes better. Sometimes I just can't hear it even when I'm being very precise and mechanical with the timing (half beat, full...

LL's progress report - keyboard and chords

I meant to follow up my first post with my progress but (sigh), work got in the way. Here goes: It's been over 3 weeks since the keyboard was delivered - after playing (as in messing around) with all the function buttons, watching lots of YouTube videos of how to access features on the keyboard (som...

Re: Had my double hernia op yesterday!

good to know it went well )t' So quick too! In the late 1990s, my line manager at work went in for a hernia op and expected to be back to his desk within the week .... fortunately the main manager had insisted that my team be prepared for the unexpected and we all knew what to do in his absence. Tha...

Piano / keyboard thread

I thought I'd start a new topic following on from the any new hobbies? thread. Not exactly a "personal diary" (like the chicken and the gardening diaries) but more like a share of any progress and if there are any piano / keyboard players around who would like to contribute and suggest ways of learn...

Coffee woe

Not a bargain or special offer, but for coffee lovers, you may want to stock up on your favourite brand as the price of coffee will expected to go up. Not entirely down to the pandemic (and fewer haulage drivers) or Brexit, but a combination of factors including a poor coffee bean harvest in Brazil ...
