Re: Losing feathers from neck
One of mine is losing neck feathers as well, has been looking a bit scraggly for a couple of weeks. I was wondering whether it was moulting or not as well. Although it is still laying everyday.

Re: Are my chickens more stupid than yours?
I wonder why they object to red tennis balls!!?! Have you got any theories?
I can't think of anything which resembles a red tennis ball which would offend them!

Another poorly chicken
Another of my chickens seems to be doing the same thing. I took a picture of her poo to see if anyone has any ideas.

Re: Poorly Chicken
Thank you for your replies, no it didn't have any potassium sorbate in it. I tried the olive oil/yoghurt thing. Unfortunately, she has just passed away, I don't know why, I hope it is not catching, the others look OK at the moment. I hope I did the right thing not taking her to the vet, but as she w...

Re: Poorly Chicken
Update: I have tried feeding her live yoghurt and olive oil but she won't open her beak! When I massaged her crop she started making 'sicky' sounds so I bent her head forward and she brang up a small amount of what looked like layers pellets and water. I smelt it and it wasn't smelly at all. I have ...

Poorly Chicken
My Esther is just standing in the coop with her eyes closed, all hunched up. I have felt her crop and it I can't really feel anything of note. I checked her vent and it looks normal to me, no straining or redness. She didn't run to get her food this morning with the other chickens, I chucked a bit o...

Toast is so pretty! Sounds like the sort of name my youngest son would choose, he has called his doll 'Doorbell' and his teddy 'Cupcake'!

Re: cabbage addiction

I gave my girls the skin of pineapple after I had prepared one today, they loved pecking at the pineapple flesh side, but as soon as it flipped over, through the...

Re: Mixing different aged chickens
Wouldn't one problem with mixing such young chickens with Point-of-Lay be that the young ones would need growers' pellets, whereas the POLs would need layers' pellets? Mind you I am no expert! It is just speculation!

Re: shutting chickens in house everynight
The catch on the door of my chickens' pop hole (into the enclosed run) has broken, and the way it is made means that it now has to be pushed from the inside to open. So I have found that if I push the door to at night (after they are asleep) that they let themselves out in the morning. I remove thei...
