All is well, but I am a little confused as there were 2 red pyle eggs, and all the chicks are very dark colour. Has anyone on here hatched pyle leghorns before, if so woul...

Heat Lamp??
Hi, is there anyone who can tell me if I need a heat lamp for newly hatched chicks if they are with their mother. They will be kept in a purpose designed brooder, inside my garage, at present with no extra heat. My instinct tells me that mum will keep them warm enough, but can't find any info. many ...

first of all thank you very much, to those have given their time to reply. I have thought about lots and lots of birds, but for the time being I want to build up to about 20 ish (30 really). And my main goal is to make sure they are as happy as they can be, food, free ranging etc. We have just found...

Many thanks for the replies, I am definately leaning towards one coop. I will still have the other two, as mentioned before, just in case some need to be separated for some reason. Better draw some plans up then.

Mainly having lots of birds together in one coop.
When I have been to look at or buy birds, they always seem to be in a number of coops instead of just one.

Thanks for that, I have seen a number of set ups and I think that for ease of cleaning collecting eggs etc, one large shed would be more convenient. Still not 100% convinced though.

What would you do?
I will be building new housing for the chickens shortly but am undecided about what to do, a number of smaller coops or one large one. I have enough timber to cover either, so there is no problem there. I intend eventually to build a flock up to around twenty of various different breeds and I think ...

Yes it did, it was used to store some of our stuff while I built a garage, I think I repaired the roof about four times.

Not sure TBH, I am planning on fencing of an area appx 120msq. But I am undecided about how to house the birds, I have a smallish coop which I built myself and also a converted playhouse at the moment. I really like the idea of one big coop, the one in the photo must of housed quite a few birds in i...

Old coop comes down at last
After living here for 6 years we have finally knocked the old coop down. It was quite a big unit 6m x 3m. All plumbed in with header tank etc, it was approx 60 yrs old http://lh5.ggpht.com/_q1fDzV-uyCU/SZA6bBJIAII/AAAAAAAAACU/KrIuhB-t4GQ/s640/phone%20061.jpg http://lh5.ggpht.com/_q1fDzV-uyCU/SZA6dHo...
