Re: Continuing Strange Tasting Eggs (No longer first)
... Even so sometimes as you say having a third person there makes you look at things in a different way and it speeded up getting it resolved. ... This is something we say a lot at work (I am a programmer), that sometimes you just need a fresh pair of eyes to spot your problems. My friend calls it...

Re: My new Dominique hens
I've seen her run (I'm her son) and she has a net over the top of the run so I don't think the chickens would ever be able to get out. You can't see it in the pictures but I think it would be good enough. What you said about next door's flat roof could be an issue though. I'm not sure if she's thoug...

Re: Home needed for 3 hens and all the gear, Cambridge
I just think that when someone has made a difficult decision like this, it is not very nice to criticize their decision as being 'horrendous'.
Thanks for everyone who has shown understanding and support.

Re: Home needed for 3 hens and all the gear, Cambridge
Well what would you suggest? Anyone can log on here and accept my chicken. I could have used any method of rehoming my pets and the same things would apply - anyone can sign up and answer an advert when they are infact unsuitable. If you own chickens, you have probably approached a breeder yourself ...

Re: Home needed for 3 hens and all the gear, Cambridge
I thought it was against freecycle rules to allow animals. It certainly is in my area. I find it horrendous that animals are got rid of by that method. The idea of freecycle is to stop stuff going to landfill.....would anyone send an animal to landfill!!!!!????? I don't really see the problem with ...

Re: Home needed for 3 hens and all the gear, Cambridge
I put the chickens up on freecycle and within minutes someone has offered to take them on. It'll be a bit sad to see them go, but I think they will be better off with a bit more space and attention.

Home needed for 3 hens and all the gear, Cambridge
I have been keeping chickens for about 2 years now, but I think the time has come for me to part with my 3 hens. Due to my working hours, and the fact that my partner has no interest in helping out with the chickens, I cannot quite give the hens the attention they need. Throughout the winter, I have...

Re: PCs - Towers v Laptops
Oh yes, got them. Thanks. Do you think if I just hoover over the holes it would do any good - if I take the casing off and bits fall out, I may not know where they came from. You shouldn't really hoover the inside of your PC as vacuum cleaners produce static electricity which can fry some of the co...

Pet sitters in Cambridge
I don't suppose any of you know of anyone who can feed my chickens over Christmas? I have left it too late I think and all of the pet sitters are fully booked!
I live in Cambridge - if you know of anyone who can help let me know!

Re: Live mealworms
Hi 4c Are mealworms easy to breed? Hubby was talking about having a go! As long as I don't have to handle them I don't mind Mealworms are very easy to breed. I found 4 mealworm beetles upstairs in my house that had flown in through the window - I now have about 30 baby mealworms. I am going to rais...

Re: Chicken Mites
I have had a mite problem for a couple of weeks now. I am currently using poultry shield to spray down the coop and diatom in the bedding. I think this is working pretty well - the number of mites has decreased but it has taken a long time to get them under control. Every time I come in after dealin...

Re: Problem Chicken
I have an automatic pop-hole opener which is why they get out so early - to be honest I hate to lock them in the coop because they have a problem with mites at the moment and I don't want to trap them in with the mites. I could get a timer so that the door opens later but I think it is quite expensi...

Re: Moving coop a drag (har har)
I never poo pick outside the coop but it does get a bit smelly after a while. Every now and then I dig over the ground and have a bit of a clean up.

Problem Chicken
One of my chickens is a right pain - all of the others are quiet and easy but she has decided that she wants to make a lot of noise every morning between 5:30 and 6:00. I don't really know why she is making such a racket but it is driving me nuts - and if it is waking me up then it is probably wakin...
