Re: No alternative
Just go for it. I have had 1 hip and both knees replaced. I am surprised at 3 months. It's all down to doing the physio. I was off crutches by 4 weeks. Ask questions if you want.

Daisy would lay eggs without Donald. I feel sorry for her, she will be bon**d to bits.

Re: Anyone had success with butternut squash?
There are loads of different squashes. I have never tried but my neighbours who have an amazing veg.plot grow them outside by the dozen. I would do a bit of googling.

Re: Marking eggs
You have to be careful as duck shell is very porous. Perhaps a small pencil mark at one end. Small piece of sicky tape on the end.

Re: My attempt to keep chickens.
They love other food apart from sweetcorn. Mine loved lettuce, defrosted peas, porridge oats. Unless they are small ducks, ie. Mallard size, I doubt if they will fly off.

I would guess she could start laying once she has moulted.

Re: My attempt to keep chickens.
If I remember rightly and it is their first moult, it will be around 4-6months. The ducks will lay (drakes don't!!!!!!!), You will have to be careful as 1 duck to 1 drake is seriously tough on the duck. Drakes have no finesse when it comes to b onking and he will ravage the duck, she will go through...

Re: My attempt to keep chickens.
When you say might be one of each do you mean duck/drake? Ducks quack and drakes don't. I always noticed that drakes tail feather tends to curl inwards. I love ducks but oh so messy.

Re: Can I compost moss?
Yes, if you put it all as a lump it doesn't compost down. Just spread it out and it will be fine.

Yes but it needs to be spread out amongst the rest of items to be composted.

Purple comb is usually a sign of lack of oxygen, poor circulation, respiratory/breathing difficulties.

Re: Advice for stubborn Lurcher!!!
Have you tried turning round and going back the direction you have come for a number of steps. All jolly and that + plus tasty treats ie : mature cheddar cut into tiny pieces, when you turn back.
That is what I used to do with my Goldie....she was a cheeky monkey for planting her feet.

Re: Just said goodbye
I am so sad to read this. I know what it is like to lose your last pet. I promised myself "no more" and have stuck to that, it has been hard but still do my home boarding for dogs.
