Re: Homemade soup

I have made a successful soup, thanks to all your advice. I added porridge oats and some pearl barley, which successfully thickened it. Having the last portion today.

Re: Homemade soup

Thank you all for your replies. I do not possess a blender, but use a potato masher to thin the ingredients down. Dumplings sound a brilliant idea, I make them for stews, and I hadn't thought of oats as a thickener. I shall be making soup for lunch, so will read your replies again, to let them sink ...

Homesick by Katrina Davies

I recently watched a Youtube video about Katrina Davies, and her shed home. It looked so interesting that I bought the book (second hand). The jury is out over the book. The accounts of life in the shed are interesting, but it also covers the plight of local people, and their inability to afford hou...

Homemade soup

I prefer my own soup to soup out of tins, though I do occasionally open tomato or veg soup. I make sufficient to last around four days, and use carrotts, potatoes, leeks, onion, parsnip, and whatevery else is around in the fridge. I add herbs, and sometimes a veggie stock cube, but it is always wate...

Although it is not particularly cold here in East Yorkshire, I would rather cook in my kitchen!

Re: The Darling Buds of May

The original series is on channel 10 around teatime. I am really enjoying it, didn't watch much the first time round, but it is an escape from reality.

Channel 4 with The Earl Spencer

This was a rare treat, Charles Spencer presented a wonderful insight into Althorp, I would watch it again if repeated.

Beautiful Ilona. I am unable to work Ted's camera, and no instructions to be found.
Such a shame because yesterday morning the sky was streaked with pink.

Re: How does your garden grow?

I tend to do bits and pieces in the garden when Angel has her first venture of the day. This morning I felt quite strong, and pruned the rasps, which did practically nothing this summer. They have managed to escape the washing line and rope which is secured at each end of the row. Hopefully my young...

Re: How does your garden grow?

I see on an earlier post that I said we had a plum tree, not so, although we did at one time, I should have said pear. Outside the greenhouse, I have an antirhnum (how do you spell it), flowering in a plant pot, and a beautiful display of nerines inside the greenhouse. A honeysuckle is flowering in ...
