Re: Avian Flu!!
The potential for a penalty is a little scary, especially if a neighbour fancies reporting you - it does seem to apply to anyone with at least one chicken. I have a pen with a mesh roof so hoping that's OK - wild birds can't get to the drinker or feeder.

Re: Hen died 3 weeks after I got her
Well I've asked for a discount on a replacement so will see how that goes. Unfortunately I don't have the body anymore - I left it out for the local fox! We have a relationship like that as I sometimes find dead animals in the garden - it's a bit like ancient tribes offering sacrifices to their god ...

Re: Hen died 3 weeks after I got her
I have mailed them but the response was that the others they have are OK and the suggestion that she died because she was unhappy and being picked on. I find that highly unlikely as after the 1st week they all got on fine together. I don't really want to fall out with the supplier as they are so clo...

Hen died 3 weeks after I got her
I bought a couple of Point-of-Lay ISA Browns 3 weeks ago and one has just died but the other is fine. She did seem a bit less active than the other so perhaps she'd been ill for a bit but otherwise seemed fine. My older hens all seem well so I'm a bit confused as to what was wrong. Just unlucky?

Ex-batt needs home - Leatherhead, Surrey
I need to rehome one of my ex-batts as she's bullying one of my others quite badly and as I'm away from home for 12 hours each day I can't keep an eye on them. She isn't laying too well at the moment - maybe an egg a week. I'm near Leatherhead, Surrey if anyone's interested.

Pay to dispose of the body? That's crazy!
Leave out for the foxes I say - perhaps a little away from your alive chickens.... I left a pigeon out the other day and the next day was gone - nice and easy!

IMO the smaller the number you have the larger the area each needs as they like to run about and feel free! I currently have 4 that have access to up 1100 sq ft if I have all three pens open or about 400 sq ft if just the main one. As I have to work off just using the main one somtimes I'd have to j...

Might be useful to know their breed. Maybe just eat them?! Do they get their own food?

I tried providing a little bed side light for those that wanted to stay up later but then they just argued about how long to keep it on for so now the sun is their guide.

Not done this but see no reason why they won't be fine! They'll like a new place to explore and green things to eat....
