Re: Goodbye
So very sorry to hear your sad news, but don't feel you have to leave!
The Lane isn't just about chickens.
Maybe one day you'll change you mind and some new girls will find your home. Until then I bet you've got lots of experience and advice to offer others.

Re: My latest pallet project.
Looks really good Al, how long did it take? Do you not find working in a haunted workshop at all scarey? Dom My hubby hates pallets, however in my new job I have unlimited access. Last month I took 2 to my dads house, 2 days later we collected the " spare wood " dad had, and hubby made a s...

Hi have you checked the coop for mites?
Do you feed anything other than layers?
Do they free range? A secret nest somewhere.

I get Flub pellets from Happychicks. They do sell a 5kg tub that is just right for a smaller flock.

Re: EYP..what syptoms?
In my experience the symptoms of EYP are, not laying for a while, a swollen warm tummy, yellow, yolk like poo that seams to dribble.
I lost my first chicken to EYP. She tended to stay in one place, dozing.
Fingers crossed you girl is better soon

Re: squishy Undercarriages
Hi. Has she laid recently? If not can you feel underneath and see if you can feel a hard bit that could be an egg. If so a nice warm relaxing bath should help, followed by a blow dry ( yes really ). Then if possible a night in a dark box in the house, some sugar water for energy. If she's not laying...

Re: Mixing breeds
Hi. I have 2 salmon Favourolles. They are big girls. Mine have just started laying, well one has, they are bigger than my 3 year old Light Sussex and Bluebelles. But they are very soft and prone to being bullied.

Re: About to buy our first chickens!
Welcome.
I have a little pot that hangs on the fence for poultry grit. I was told they know when they need it, like thirst. They really don't take much so don't worry if it like they're not taking it.
Looking forward to pics.
Saz

Yep, I had a lovely black girl, Marmite. Sadly lost her last year but she didn't have such a big comb and wattles.
They look like lovely boys though.
