Re: The Bumbling Keeper of Bees
Checked Hive 1 which was populated from a split and it is thriving, super placed on top even though there is space in the deep/brood box as we are surrounded by sunflowers in full bloom at present so things should get busy as there is plenty of brood in the hive. Struggled to find the Queen which I ...

Re: How does your garden grow?
Apart from the odd couple of black raspberries and a few of the normal red ours are not producing yet. Problem this year as they are so dense as we did not have the time to manage them properly we will be cut to ribbons fighting through the thicket of stems to harvest them, looks like a good pulling...

The Titanic
Back in the media again regarding the incident with the submersible but I was reading the views regarding the "resting" place of the wreck from a descendant of people who had died on the ship. She stated the site should be left alone as it is grave for many people and should no longer be disturbed. ...

Re: LSGD - Bulgarian Karakachan
Good day today (sounds a bit Australian) as our LSGD took another step forward watching over our young turkey poults as well as Mum and her ducklings. Unsupervised but restricted to our inside area she happily wandered with them even picking a couple up to return them back to where they should be an...

Re: How does your garden grow?
I tried to reply earlier but there seems to be something wrong with the DTL website - it has been overly slow on some occasions (both my computer at home and the one at work) Anyhoo ... I have been having the same issues but thought it was our internet which is very hit and miss here }hairout{ saw ...

Re: How does your garden grow?
That's it, all the peas are up, shelled and in the freezer, first beans picked today, a massive bucket load and several bowlfuls of red and blackcurrants (though like you Mo the birds seemed to have had a lot of our black currants). We will start picking the white currants tomorrow they seem to have...

Re: Angel wing
Glad to say we seem to have resolved the wing issue, it is now folding correctly and with all the wing feathers now grown in it is sitting nicely in position. Hoping it will be a permanent fix, we shall see at the next feather moult.

Re: How does your garden grow?
After several days of heavy rain and thunderstorms we have had to rescue most of the peas as they and their supports had collapsed, lots to pop out of their pods but so far around 1.5 kgs have gone in the freezer, also picked most of our gooseberries, quite a few for their second year and many of th...

Re: Cormorants
We see a lot on inland lakes now (not sure how long they've been doing this, remember them as a seaside bird) That is how I always thought of them as coastal residents along with shags. Their numbers at this lake seem to be around 20, we are heading to a different lake tomorrow so it will be intere...

Re: LSGD - Bulgarian Karakachan
So our (hopefully) livestock protector has passed another stage, happily mixing with the geese and ducks and not even reacting when Derrick the gander had a tug at her tail. She is fine with the large turkeys and happily rounds up the younger birds if they stray to far from their Mums. Next up tomor...

Re: The Bumbling Keeper of Bees
Well, we split our main hive again today as lack of space and a few capped queen cells looked like they could swarm. Anyway we shall see what happens, amazing that they have filled all the empty frames so fast. So from one to three hives in a matter of weeks, lets hope the amount of honey they produ...

Re: Angel wing
Re strapped our gosling's wing today as it seemed to have dropped as the new heavy feathers have started pushing through. Only as a safety precaution. It is proving interesting dealing with this and even one of the vets we use is keeping up to date with events as he had never heard of the condition ...

Cormorants
The last couple of weeks we have been surprised to see cormorants around one of the lakes we walk to most mornings. It took a while to actually confirm what they were as it has been many years since seeing one and I did not realize they came in land as we have never seen them here before. There is a...

Re: Angel wing
All the goslings got their first real taste of freedom today when let loose in the field. Watching carefully the one that had angel wing was happily stretching its wings and then folded them back to their correct position so fingers crossed the bandaging has worked.

Re: LSGD - Bulgarian Karakachan
Not boring, but I would never have guessed either way What sort of dog is it. Big? small? like an alsatian? Medium sized but solid, also extremely strong willed/stubborn. She is proving to be the most challenging dog I have owned and even harder to work with than our previous Turkish Kangal who was...
