Re: Broody Hen

The one time I had a broody hen, it didn't put the others off laying, but I do have several places they can lay if desperate. (they all like one the same place really). My thought was to let the broody chook do her thing, she'll come out of it, it was weeks!, in the end though we intervened and acti...

Re: Blackbirds

We have a pond, the chickens use it as well as all the others. We too have a regular male robin, he did bring his lady love once, but no signs of young yet. We overlook the garden most of the day and the robin responds to eye contact, or is that us? We catch his eye, he moves in closer, we pop out w...

Re: Dried mealworms

We buy ours on Ebay. 12.5kg for £64.89! cheapest we could find, comes in 2.5kg bags, so you don't need to open a huge bag all at once. Already onto the 2nd bag!

Re: Blackbirds

The young 'uns were all brought into the garden for plentiful feeding times. Hubbs costs us a fortune in mealworms. We bought 12.5kg about a month ago. I had to point out that he'd fed them a bag (2.5kg) in less than a month. Expensive, this feeding the wildlife lark, wouldn't have it any other way ...

Blackbirds

I noticed a female blackbird gathering nest material from around the pond. Now I know that she'd recently brought up a family, my garden is very bird friendly and we get lots of birdy families visiting, So wondered if they brood twice. Looking online 2 to 3 is normal and sometimes 4 in a good year! ...

Maybe you aren't communicating the gist of the game very well? :P
Do you mean like
understanding road users - indicators, hand signals, traffic lights?

Re: Rosie so destructive

I have found that my girls don't like herbs, against self seasoning I guess :) , so Sage and Rosemary are safe bets. They also keep the chives trimmed, but not devastated.
Any flowers that were there, are no longer, they even eat the yellow flag growing in the pond.

I used to watch the Loch of the Lowes webcams too :)
but these days it's GlasLyn and the Dyfi cams in Wales.
Simon Kings webby has the Tawny Owls, amongst other cams.
Sure I read somewhere that the tits need 1000's of caterpillars to bring up a brood, good luck to them :)
