Re: Half term meals.
The sad thing is that if you showed some people a turnip or a swede they would have no idea what they are. Cheaper cuts of meat and root veg do take longer to cook but a lot can be cooked in one pan and then the excess frozen. I remember watching a TV program about how much food waste there is, from...

Re: Half term meals.
I just wish that cookery lessons were still given in schools. People have lost the art of making a hearty meal for a family. In my early day as a mum nothing was thrown away. We had no benefits then so had to make meals from what we had, and did. Hearty soups from mixed veg or small amounts of meat ...

Re: Strictly Come Dancing back
I'm looking forward to next week when the dancing starts. I don't have any idea yet who I think will be good . It usually takes me a couple of weeks to start developing an opinion which usually turns our wrong.

Latest knitting projects
This is my latest way of keeping busy. Had so much wool given to me when I came out of hospital that I have to now find a way to use it, other than large items that my fingers won't let me do. For some reason when you click on the picture it comes up very big.

A busy time
Now is a time when we are busy with jam and chutney making. I have already made red tomato chutney. Have gathered the last of the green ones to make more and have to decide what to do with a large bag of sharp apples that have been given to me. Years ago I made apple and ginger jam which was lovely ...

Re: TV Licence
My TV licence paperwork arrived yesterday, at last. Have your heard any more June? I have chosen to pay monthly on a direct debit. I think the least "they" could have done was to reinstate the free licence for over seventy fives, after all, there is little on the beeb that is worth watching, althou...

Re: Chrysanths and gro-bags
Should be fine to take out the top. How far depends on how leafy they are down the tall stem as you must leave some leaves. It might also take more time for the flower buds to appear but your plants will be stronger. Good luck and hope you have a lovely show.

Re: Extinction
I found the program so interesting and enlightening. The program showed what damage has been done in just 50yrs. I agree that we should all make changes now and that things can be reversed. However, I also think that most people will carry on as they are. Many are not bothered with what is happening...

Re: TV Licence
Heard no more about mine . I have an e-mail which was headed Thank you for applying for your TV licence which I have to prove I contacted them, plus I spoke on the phone so must be a record of that. As far as I am concerned the problem is hopefully theirs to sort out.

Re: describing apples
Lucky lady having so many apples. Worcester is also my favourite apple but don't know how to describe them. They have a distinct sweet fruity crispness that only the Cox also has. An old English apple that is not seen much today. Looking up worcester pearmain it is described as having a mild strawbe...
