Re: bubblewraping greenhouse

I have used bubble wrap in the greenhouse for years, and but now prefer to use fleece, which can be used over and over again. For both I simply stretch string or wire from end to end at the apex, and another one at the eaves, draping the bubble wrap or fleece over it, letting it hang down the sides.

Problem with onions

For the past six years we have grown onions from sets. For the past two years, our onions have started to rot from the top down, despite being dried off in the greenhouse. The other four crops have been a success and lasted all the winter. After lifting and drying off in the greenhouse, OH has cut t...

Re: Meet the new girls!

What sort of existence must these little things have had. I hope they start to enjoy their lives now, and revel in their new found freedom. Well done Lisa for taking them, and very best wishes for their future with you.

Re: Introducing ...

I am intrigued to read that Lilly cried to go to bed. Is it the kind of noise they make when they want to get into the nest box to lay, and you are busy sorting the hut out?

Re: Do we have to take down the whole shed?

Hello Lisa - here are the photos of our shed, which is two B ...q midi sheds bolted together, one in front of the other. The completed shed measures approx 30" wide, five and a half feet high and approx 30" deep. There are two shelves, but no pop hole. I leave the narrow doors open, the gi...

Re: Dogs barking at chickens - other ways to stop it?

I have a sheltie, a most vocal breed. We are down to one now, but in the past, my effective method of silencing our three was to slam rolled up newspaper on the worktop. One always set the other two off. They all went very silent, and apprehensive looking, and were immediately quiet when I reached f...

Re: Do we have to take down the whole shed?

Hello Lisa I have been watching for your new coop pictures. We took the floor, roof, one side and front (with door and pop hole) down from our lovely wooden shed, when the red mite took up residence. We took the unwanted bits to the tip. We were then left with two sides at right angles, which have f...

Re: Preparing for winter.....

Just reading your posts about winter. My girls are in a smallish plastic shed which is under a corrugated plastic roof. It has a greenhouse on one side, and a large lap fence on the other. Each end of the run is fairly sheltered. Do you think I will need to cover the shed with a tarpaulin - dependin...
