Another paint problem
I am now touching up interior woodwork in my kitchen. Finding a small amount of cream gloss paint has been more than difficult. The hardware shop had one litre tins, but would not sell me a small amount of cream. They mix paint themselves. I bought a 250ml tin of magnolia, hoping it might blend in, ...

Re: Thick skin on paint.
Managed to remove the skin, and my son has got the lid on properly for me. What would I do without thinners!

Re: Thick skin on paint.
Thanks for the advice folks. I haven't attempted to remove the skin yet. Try as I might, I cannot get the lid down evenly. One side goes down with the use of a hammer and the other side is not quite sealed.

Re: Digital
I struggle with anything new in the techie field. Fortunately one of my sons works in IT, and helps me out. I was horrified to read in our local magazine that we need a photo and an ID form to vote. I have taken the easy way out and sent for a postal vote. How are the older generation going to handl...

Re: How does your garden grow?
I am biting the bullet in a short while, and sowing some of my Gardeners Delight tomato seeds. I will start them off inside under my bay window, which is south facing. I was given some rooting powder for Christmas and took a few slips of winter flowering jasmine, which came from two of my previous h...

Thick skin on paint.
Today I decided to touch up some paintwork on a bare patch on the back door. The paint is around three years old. I eventually got the lid off with the aid of WD40 (what would we do without it?), and a large screwdriver. I found a very thick skin on the paint. After stabbing a few holes in the paint...

I too mainly listen to the radio when I am driving, but listen to Classic FM when I am getting up.

Re: Wood Burning shower
I wonder if back boilers still exist, and if they are used. There was one when we moved in here. The boiler part had been taken out, and Ted used the damper to repair our rising door curtain! A friend had one in her fireside oven, with a tap to draw the water off. This was used for their bath. Yes t...

Re: Cost of living shopping trends
My computer whooshed, so here goes at a second attempt. I am spending as much each week as I did before Ted died. For tea I sometimes have a sandwich or a couple of pikelets instead of a proper cooked meal I often mash potato, carrot and swede together. I does turn out lumpy sometimes, as the swede ...

LL, I didn't realise that my bread maker is not using three hours worth of electricity, thanks for pointing that out. I have a slow cooker, must be almost thirty five years old now. I could try it for a rice pudding.

Well done with your Eco bricks, LL. I made about three before lockdown. What a brilliant idea for the borders of your raised beds, I hope you are able to use them some time soon.

Re: Have you stopped using your oven?
Your loaf looks brilliant, Michael. How long did it take to bake? My breadmaker takes three hours for a white loaf, so rather a lot of electricity. I am not physically capable of hand kneading nowadays, and my big mixer with a dough hook expired several years since, after doing a weekly bake for a h...
