Re: 3 amberlinks and 1 speckled.

Mine never did go to the coop by themselves. Left with just the one now and I still have to tuck her in every night! (she'll be 8 this May!)

Re: mince pie alternatives (vegetarian GF)

On the Ocadoooo site they have the Jus-Rol Gluten Free pastry as approximately 35x23cm, so just a little bigger than a sheet of A4 paper.

Re: mince pie alternatives (vegetarian GF)

I am now wondering if the pastry is rolled up on the short side, so the box is the height of the pastry. Amazing I can't recall unboxing a week ago lol.
I will be buying more on my next shopping trip, but obviously that'll be after xmas now.
I'll measure it once it's on the board :)

Re: mince pie alternatives (vegetarian GF)

I've made a crumble cake before. Not GF though. The bottom half had some sort of binder to make it a more traditional cakey consistency. It's this one m" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I've made this many times, swapping the toppings for raspberries, or apples for example. W...

Re: mince pie alternatives (vegetarian GF)

HAHA! to the greaseproof :D It really does help with the rolling though :) All I can say is the pastry is as long as the box it comes in, and I guess about 8 inches the other way. 375g (I dug the box out of the recycling :) ) Once I bought some ready made puff pastry that was a solid block, that was...

Re: mince pie alternatives (vegetarian GF)

They end up like a small danish pastry, so ok, a roll more than a twist.
I have some in the freezer still and can take a pic if you want.
I also dusted mine with icing sugar before serving.

Re: Chestnuts roasting on an open fire

When we were kids we would go dog walking with the parents and pick up chestnuts. Not having an open fire at home ours were grilled. Or Boiled for cooked dinners/xmas dinner. Open fire at my Uncles and grandparents though. We picked some locally a few years ago, but someone came along and moaned tha...

Re: mince pie alternatives (vegetarian GF)

I am a great fan of ready roll pastry.... and guess what you can buy gluten free now!!! :) I've never used gluten free ready roll pastry, I like mine all glutened up :P This year I did mince pie twists. A whole pack of ready rolled puff pastry (Lidl's if you are interested :P ) Unrolled, but left on...

Shows how much water is in food doesn't it.
Are dehydrators available over there?
Always fancied one, but can't convince OH that it would be a good thing :)
Mainly due to the fact they seem to be huge.

Re: Thornless blackberries

I bought a thornless blackberry a few years ago. I ended up pulling it up because the fruit really didn't taste good at all. Looked great, decent sized berries, no flavour. Hopefully yours tastes better! Can't remember the variety. Tesco had a clubcard deal on to buy 3 bushes, a red gooseberry (the ...

Yesterday I made 1 jar of raspberry jam!
:)
I've never made a single jar of jam before (first time for raspberry too).
Makes sense really to adjust recipes to make less, if that's what you have.
Beetroot and chili sound like an interesting mix.

I guess if she's hunting, she's feeling well enough.
They are a worry and stress, but in my view, worth it in the long run :)
