Sorry if this is already covered elsewhere, but with our cats we taught them to use the catflap by putting food on the other side of it. First of all we had to prop it open, then we carried on with the food but didn't prop it. They got the message eventually.

(s)he'd be able to tell you at least whether those are expected side effects, and whether another drug might be better - possibly even speak to your GP for you.
