Re: Covid again - a couple of interesting articles
There was also the case in Singapore (I think) when a couple who had it sat in one pew, then the folk in the next service who sat in the same place caught it and spread it. A friend is a H&S officer but a very sensible one, and she also talks about the evidence for different types of surface affecti...

I wonder if it was rosehip syrup you used to get? I'm a 60s baby but we had the warm and creamy school milk, rosehip syrup and haliborange tablets - but I'm not sure if the last two were school or just us. The syrup was lovely but then we didn't get sweets very often.

Re: Things we could 'fix' in the past
Yes, it's true that much of the things on here, like changing plugs, brushes and elements, were stopped by EU safety rules. And then there's the product liability insurance. Now to do many things, you don't just need to be a qualified engineer, you need to have the right certification as well. Like t...

Re: Have you stocked up just in case?
But I am sure that Tesco, like all the other supermarkets, are looking at alternative sources outwith the EU. The rich do get richer, and they have a lot of resources at their disposal I think. Remembering how militant the french farmers became about imports they objected to, I'll be interested to s...

Re: When it becomes available, will you have the jab?
If your doctor is aware of your allergies and concerns, I'm sure he/she might take that into consideration and suggest not having this batch of vaccine. LL, do you think it's possible to do a patch skin test for something like this? Or maybe give the vaccine in controlled settings so they can inter...

Re: Strictly Come Dancing back
However, in the end it wasn't the public who voted her off, it was the judges, ultimately, Shirley who had the final choice. Well yes, true, but from a choice of two. I agree that the judges and especially Shirley are the best placed to know, and maybe Ranvier's weaknesses were apparent this time. ...

Re: Strictly Come Dancing back
As ever, the great British public have voted out a great dancer and left in the popular slebs. I thought Ranvir really deserved to stay to the end.

Hospital life always starts very early so she'd have been awake anyway, unlike most of the journalists, but she'd have also had to give consent for the filming. I think, from what she said, that she's keen to encourage others to do the same, so I'm sure she's fine with it.

Re: When it becomes available, will you have the jab?
I think my approach would be that you'd be very unlucky as well as statistically unlikely to get covid on the one occasion you ventured out to get the vaccine. As long as you follow all the hands, face, space rules you can minimize the chances. It's hard to shake off the caution and I probably look ...

Re: Looking for a Proper Christmas Pud
These ones say they use sustainable palm as a source of veggie suet:

These use butter, and have options to have your pudding e.g. without nuts

Haven't tried them so can't give a recommendation.

Re: Salting meat
That does sound more like what she offered. Sorry to keep asking questions, but if you use this method is it obvious whether the salt is damp from the meat juices or just drawing in moisture from the air? Colouration I suppose? Maybe it's better to do it in a sealed container? I'm suspecting that, h...

10 years?! sile} Makes our sell-by dates look a bit wimpy! I guess you have to be sure about your water supply as well. Thanks so much for all this detail. I was interested because of all the negativity about nitrates and wondered whether salting, if done well, could be a better alternative. I'd be ...

Thanks for that, Manda. What happens to it in the meantime? Do you take it out of the brine and hang it?
