Re: Got out in the garden today
I didn't get into the garden yesterday as it rained on & off all day. We did get out on Sunday & have to say it makes you feel a whole lot better with a bit of sun on your face! We are still on "project re-vamp" of the garden. We will eventually get turf put down but at the moment ...

Re: Karen's 2015 garden diary
I don't grow peas anymore (too long winded to process!) but when I did I used to put 4 seeds into a 3" pot & plant out when they were established. I also do this with Runners,French & Borlotti beans as we have many voles on the lotty & not enough predators for them!! Sorry for hijac...

Has anyone planted any veg yet??
As the title suggests I am just wondering if anyone has actually managed to plant any veg yet? It is just typical that the weather has been awful every time we have had time to get on our allotment. We have usually planted the garlic by now & would be well on the way to having all the beds ready...

Re: Osprey in Warwickshire!!!
We have now surpassed the excitement of the Osprey over our allotment in the autumn by the fact that yesterday (Sunday) we had one over the garden!! Best bird we have on our garden list in 23 years of living here!! Quickly texted local chap to let him know it was heading to the next village, he phon...

Tax on plastic bottles
What do you folks think about the proposed tax on plastic bottles? I remember as a child taking the Corona bottle back to the off licence for I think 1p. I am all in favour of the whole idea if it encourages more people to recycle but not sure how it will get managed in reality. There seems to be so...

Re: Tumbelina trailing Petunia seeds
Hi Spreckly. Not sure if I'll explain this correctly but some plants have "licences" which means they can only be grown by a nursery who is contracted to grow them. From past experience of working in a nursery that grew bedding plants from seed for the major catalogue suppliers I have a fe...

Re: BT line rental
Gwenoakes, not sure where "this never happens" box is?
Mo, no she hasn't paid too much, it seems BT are giving people the discount if they only have landline i.e. no internet with them or anybody.

BT line rental
I look after my Mum in laws finances & was shocked when I went on Wednesday to find a letter from BT telling her that her line rental will REDUCE by £7 a month from April!! It is because she only has a landline & no internet with them or anyone else. I just had to share this with you all as ...

Stamp prices rising!
Not sure if people use many stamps any more but if you do 1st & 2nd class are going up by 2p next Monday & the large letter one by 3p. Have seen suggestions that we should buy them now for our Xmas cards!! Now that's planning early!!

Re: Time for a pond
Looking good! Once it all settles down it will be wonderful & it is surprising how quickly the wildlife find a pond. As Richard said you might want to put a ramp in the shallow end for animals to get back out if they fall in, I'm thinking more of hedgehogs, they can swim but may not be able to g...

Re: Wildlifemad's Allotment Diary
So we are now in March & still haven't managed to get on the lotty!!! We go to Mum in law every fortnight so only have 2 weekends a month & it seems at the moment that our "free" weekends are always awful weather wise! We are also still trying to get our garden project finished. I ...

Re: Solar Panels are great, but........
I agree they are ugly but serve a good purpose & also hate to see swathes of them in the fields. I thought when they first came up with the idea of them going into the fields they were only going to get planning if the land was no use for growing? We live on the edge of the Vale of Evesham (Aspa...

No signs of any hogs here yet but I did buy a couple of tins of cat food ready! I have got dried as well but gave the rest of the tinned to our local rescue hospital when ours went into hibernation. Fingers crossed we get to see them all again this year.

Re: Feeding the hungry Birds!
It has been very busy in the garden as expected but yesterday I had a total of 21 Fieldfares eating apples, we have 1 or 2 when the weather turns but never had that many! I went through 20 apples in the day, lots of mealworms & suet pellets & kept putting fresh water out. Starlings was a new...
