Well done John, I admire you for getting your book out there. I have been struggling with mine for a year or so, my problem is lack of focus and commitment. My head is full of other stuff, like how can I earn enough to pay my bills. I write a bit then move on to something else. Hope the sales go wel...

Turning raised beds into polytunnels
I built my raised beds with pallets, cut them in half, and put three beds in a row. I am getting them ready for planting, so I have turned them into mini polytunnels. I got all the wood free from work. Put 4 posts down the centre, and some cross bars along the top, then drape a heavy plastic sheet o...

Mo, the penguins are fab, my mother would have loved that, she always laughed at them waddling along.
I had a little diversion on that link, could not resist taking a look at Johnny Kingdom, golden eagle, and horses, brilliant.
I wouldn't have found that without you, thanks
Ilona

Isn't it amazing how far those little duckies can travel, their little wings and legs must be turbo charged.
I hope mine stay awhile, and feed themselves up on those fat slugs and snails that are hidden and waiting to attack my juicy little baby plants !

Invasion of ducks ! ! !
INVASION OF THE RARELY SEEN bob tailed, short legged, red billed, migrating, North African, androgynous ducks, in a North Lincolnshire back garden. It was reported that they swooped in at around midnight, making straight for the bird bath. Korky the cat could not contain his delight at such a specta...

cheap fruit bushes
I got some fruit bushes from the pound shop yesterday, black currant, and raspberry. They must have been in the packaging for some time, wrapped in a plastic bag, inside a box, but they have some new growth so I am hopefull that they will survive. You've got to try it for a pound each. The same ones...

Living off the 'grid'
Just found this article whilst looking for something else. Why bother to buy a newspaper when you can read it for free on here? Very interesting story, lots of food for thought. Inspiring? Is this the way everyone will have to go when we have robbed the earth of all it's resources? m Ilona

Hi Lou It really does depend on what you want to grow. I wouldn't spend a lot of money on buying new pots, go to a car boot and see what you can find for a pound or two, or better still, keep your eyes open when out and about. Look in skips to see if there is anything you can make drainage holes in ...

Tidy me has my seeds filed in a box in order of sowing. Mo is right, you can save your seeds and use them the following years. Seed swap is a good idea, but would probably work best with a local group of gardeners or allotment holders, who meet regularly. I don't know how much a stamp would be to se...

Bubble wrap is just the job, Richard, you can make a frame to fit it. Another idea, they sell £1 plastic covers for garden furniture in Pound**** or similar, make a frame out of bits of wood to fit the cover. Get one for a square table though, not a round one. Might have to weight it down if it get...

Hi Mellonia Last year was my first try at growing veg. I didn't want to dig my lawn up, it's mainly clay underneath so it would have been back breaking. I put together some raised beds made from pallets, got a load of free compost from the churchyard, (years of rotted grass cuttings and leaves) and ...
