My son and daughter-in-law are staying tonight, so at about 7:00 pm I went to open the gates to our drive. I took a torch with me and the first thing I saw outside was a rather large toad.
Just by coincidence, as I opened the gates my son arrived, and drove his car straight in. I went to close the gates as he got out of the car and as he did, something shot past him out of the gate and across the road. I shone my torch on whatever it was, and saw a huge monitor lizard, must have been about 3 foot long disappear into the long grass. I didn't have a camera and it was too dark anyway but this is what it was:
I'm pretty sure he/she wasn't dangerous but it moved pretty fast and so startled us a bit. I'll certainly be more careful when in the garden at night from now on.
It did make us jump (a bit)

I was nervous of any kind of reptile when living in Aus so it wouldn't suit me living where you are as lovely as it looks.
How great to have your son visit. Does he live there also or having a holiday?

I am now a widow and live with my memories.
