We got up at 2am last Monday to drive to North Wales to see a Black Grouse Lek! We have seen them in Scotland a few times but distant. We arrived at the single track road & pulled over behind two other cars, the Grouse were already strutting their stuff about 20ft from the road!! Absolutely amazing to see them that close. We had a count of 18 & could also see another lek on the other side of the valley with about 12! 2 hours spent sat in the car watching until they all flew when a Hen Harrier shot through looking for breakfast!! It was over for the day & it was only 8.30am!!! On the way home we stopped at Middleton Lakes RSPB reserve which isn't too far from home but we have only been once before, had a good time there as well.
