Down at the bottom of the deep blue sea, counting fishes

Post by fabindia »

After I finished my diving instructor course, Wendy and I headed off to the east coast of Borneo as everyone told us the diving there was better than where we were based on the west coast. So we headed off and stayed in a house on stilts over the sea and spent our days watching the sea gypsies and there kids go about their daily business. They let their kids out on the sea in little boats on their own from babies. It wasn't unusual to sea a child of what looked to be 18 months on a little boat with an older sibling of just 4 or 5.
Beneath the sea is a different world. Let's just hope the world wakes up to just how valuable this resource is before we destroy it.
Below are some photos from my dive. They were taken by the guide I dived with not myself but here is a YouTube link to a video I took. The guide I was diving with was pointing out the first turtle but hadn't seen the two up ahead, which I rush off to film.

Nudibranches are sea slugs. We hate them in the garden but they are beautifully coloured under the sea. They don't go for the camouflaged approach to life. They are extremely toxic and so their vibrant bright colours send out the message, 'eat me at your peril'.

Everyone's favourite since Disney's 'Finding Nemo' - Clownfish

I too hope people wake up to what is in our oceans and everyone starts to 'think' before destroying it.

Amazing pictures, thanks for posting. Sea life is very precious, I hope people make more of an effort not to pollute it.
