One of my sons (actually his wife), is getting a kitten. They have had cats for many years, but my son has asked if I know how old a kitten is before it can leave its mother.
I've had several cats, and I can't find my ancient cat book anywhere, but please can someone tell me how many weeks a kitten is before it can be taken to its new home.
Son and his wife have had mice, I think they are hoping the newcomer will solve this problem!

Re: Advice regarding a kitten
The absolute minimum age a kitten should leave it's mother is 8 weeks but it is preferable to leave them with mum until 12 weeks.

I agree with that. We had one from a rescue centre that was younger, but he exhibited signs of early weaning behaviour for the next 14 years and he also had bone weaknesses from poor nutrition. Our other one came to us at 13 weeks and he was a very settled and well-balanced young kitty with a great sense of fun.

I agree 8 weeks absolute minimum.
Not sure that kitty will solve the mouse problem though.

If it's female ask at the vet for early neutering. Kittens can also have kittens.

Re: Advice regarding a kitten
I agree about the 8 weeks but think 10-12 is better. As for mice, my cat brings them in for me, alive. Drives me mad trying to find them, especially if she takes them into the bedroom.
I am now a widow and live with my memories.
