300,000 new homes.....

Post by Richard »

When the Government first raised this a couple of weeks ago I thought it was just a one off as in 'we need 300,000 new homes.
This morning I watched Mr. Hammond on the News and he added "every year".
Blimey !!
Sad news is they've put an application in to build 1300 new homes at the back of me of which 650 will be against the back hedge and all the way down to the River.
Obviously there's campaigning against this going on, but in the last three weeks we've had Surveyors, then Test Digs and last week, Archaeologists.
I offered them a fiver each to say there's a complete Roman Village with mosaic floors still in tact, but I got a blank look !
This is the edge of the main lake near me where they're building 150 houses, about 70 trees chopped down and 15 feet deep of Reedbeds gone

Closer view, the lake appears to have shrunk, wonder why !!

I fear the worse.

I'm also about to expect a housing estate of 400 new homes built less than a mile away on farmland - it's been on the cards for the past 3 years. I wouldn't like to have one as it will be right next to the new H2S route.
I'm sad but also angry. Sad because when I moved to this house, it would take less than a 10 minute walk to find myself in the countryside and away from "urban" life. I enjoyed many a walk with the dog by the canals and along bridle paths. Angry because where I live, the town (basically a street with small shops and businesses) is already a thoroughfare for traffic coming off the motorway at 2 junctions and outlying villages, and joining the main route into Nottingham is a nightmare - so let's just add another 400-1000 cars doing exactly the same thing (most houses round here are a 2 or even 3 car house - mainly because the public transport isn't enough - one bus from Derby is full by the time it gets here, and the other bus runs just one service every hour - and they all go in one direction only, into the city)

Progress eh! How miserable for you both. So outrageous to lose huge areas of countryside. Houses are springing up in all the surrounding villages. Down the lane we have the offensive new development for eco lodges, which despite the council throwing the application out, an appeal was won. The lady who came to inspect the area was from Bristol, and must have come on a traffic free day, as our lane is single track and normally busy. The called for passing place has not been installed yet. Next door to this white elephant is now a "ranch" style stables, with a huge brick entrance, floodlit in the dark, bringing even more traffic through the village.
Last week someone crashed into an end terrace cottage, but though we all complain about the speed and volume of traffic, the council do nothing.
What a beautiful area to spoil Richard.

I do fear for what this country will be like in another 10/20 years time and where are all the people coming from to buy these new homes. We moved out to the country because the 'village' where we previously lived had already just become an extension of the neighbouring town with plans to build hundreds more houses. The roads were crammed at certain times of the days already so I've now idea what all these extra vehicles would mean to the residents. I drove through the village the other week and I just couldn't wait to get home and out of the madness}hairout{ I know a couple of people who've recently bought new homes and they're being put up so quickly there are so many issues, I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

"I can't see any reason as to why the Farmer would want to sell that field"
"Maybe a £1,000,000 cheque" ?

Hi , my point of view could save building those houses quite easily . But PC and Europe stops me from saying it.
Welcome Richard to the Global village (on your door step)
