I know this is an old subject but we have just obtained a chicken coop that is made completely out of recycled plastic. There are various on the market now. Easy to put together and sturdy. Just hope it lasts as long as they say. It will be interesting to see how the chickens take to it once in position.

Good for you Trev.)ot: I have been trying to find your early posts, without success. I remember finding them most interesting.
I watch frugality posts on You Tube, most of the content is what I have done all my homemaking life, but one useful tip was washing greaseproof paper after us. It does work!

Glad you enjoyed them, hopefully some of the new posts will generate some conversation as well.
As for plastic, we buy our cooking/drinking water in the 11 litre bottles then pour these into the 19 litre bottle for use on the water cooler. The original bottles we then use to store water pumped from the well, then they become mini greenhouses and growing pots or we throw some stones in one and the dog loves chasing it around the garden and finally we will fill them up with water or soil and they get used for shooting practice before being emptied and recycled. Just one way of utilizing something for as many uses as possible.

There are quite a few products on the market now (including children outdoor toys / swings etc) as recycling plastic has become a business rather than one of those tinkering with possibilities. I was particularly interested in the use of recycled plastic to make lumber planks (will not rot down like wood and lasts longer) for outdoor projects such as raised beds, fence panels or garden furniture. Unfortunately they were more expensive than wood (well, at the time I viewed though wood prices have since soared) and I don't think is as easy to work with (that is, sawing and making your own from scratch rather than purchase ready moulded shapes)
I went through a phase of making Eco bricks where you fill 2L pop bottles with plastic wrappers which don't go through the recycle bin but to landfill. I was going to use them to make garden bed boundaries (or walls for a wildlife pond which I'd cover with pond liner) but it all went to pot during the lockdown (a lot of my gardening projects came to a halt as I got stuck with working from home which was more time-consuming) I know I still have about 30 of them packed and ready to use if and when I get round to it.

Well done with your Eco bricks, LL. I made about three before lockdown. What a brilliant idea for the borders of your raised beds, I hope you are able to use them some time soon.
