All the better for recent treats, thanks Sandy. We have been spoiling her: sardines one day, corn on the cob the next. Nice cold cucumber and tomatoes get a big thumbs up on a hot day.
Wiggy has been drinking rather a lot of water in all this heat and is therefore a bit runny, as it very much were, and had decided to add to the excitement with a mud/aubiose bathe (must be some sort of Spa Treatment. Not recommended) - and was in a bit of a mess, so we decided there was nothing for it but to give her a bath. We braced ourselves for the full Benny Hill chase around the garden and run, but she astonished all concerned - including herself - by crouching and enabling us to grab her. I don't think she actually enjoyed her bath but she was well behaved and dried herself in the sun afterwards. Her bottom is currently looking spectacularly fluffy and clean.

Hi Sandy - good to see you all had a lovely time at the get-together.
Hmmm, I reckon she is about five and three-quarters now. Quite an old lady, really.
She is currently a little bit under the weather, just the last couple of days. She seems to be feeling a bit sorry for herself, even more jumpy than usual, not keen on leaving the run, pecking at her favourite treats half-heartedly, as if she is doing us a massive favour by eating the grapes/corn/whatever. I wonder if we are in for the annual striptease/feather duster impression.

Having just seen that poor Dory Grey Woo may be suffering from Bumblefoot made me wonder when Wiggy's first bumble was. So I had to look back through my posts and was enjoying a lovely ramble down memory lane (turns out it was 2014 - and the vet was really pessimistic, but she showed him) - and I suddenly realised all my old photos were back!yike* )app( )c( )c( )like(

Oh yes, it seems that photobucket' users burned it on the disappearing forum pics, and so they've reinstated them. Apparently it's temporary but we'll see
It's nice to ramble through the diaries isn't it? So much we forget and it's so nice to remind ourselves. Wiggy did well with her bumblefoot, poor Caspers kept recurring. Let's hope Dory has some of that Woo stock in her)t'

Hmm, a bit of a poser in Woo HQ. To the casual observer, Wiggy seems to be in robust health: cheerful and busy. However, she is off the sunflower seeds, which have been her very favourite treat for some time, and had splatty poos, so I thought I would worm her.
She was very excited when I introduced the Marriages pellets with Flub on Monday (always the odd-bod), but far from improving things, she is now doing very, very worrying dark green and runny "ill hen" poos. And yet looking at her, you would never think there was anything wrong. She seems absolutely herself.
It isn't from eating lots of grass, as she has been confined to quarters for worming since Monday afternoon.
She has only just finished a partial moult - in fact some of the new bottom feathers are still in their casings, so she is rocking a porcupine look under the tail. Perhaps she is due another moult, but it is all a bit of a worry.>coc<

I hope that Wiggy goes on OK HP. It is always a worry. My little Ivy was poorly when I got her back from chicken boarding. She had terrible runny poos. We gave her a couple of spa baths in Epsom Salts and gave her Epsom Salts orally as well. She has, thank goodness, greatly improved and her poos are fine now. She still however hasn't got back to laying yet. It is a complete mystery to me what was wrong. I know exactly what you mean about the worry. Try the Epsom Salts treatment. If it is nothing serious it seems to perk them up again and flush out their systems. Good luck.

Thank you both. You are kind.
One of the things that was worrying me was that every time I went out, she was in the coop. She would come out when she heard me, but I thought it was odd. Was it because she was ill, cold, down in the dumps, doing a really rubbish version of broody?
I decided that worming would have to come second to making sure she ate, so gave her corn on the cob and she attacked it with great enthusiasm, which was a relief.
I left the wormy pellets in the feeder but went against the rules and made sure that every day for the past week she had corn on the cob, sardines, half an apple or a handful of grapes, and her poop, while still splatty, seems improved.
Yesterday, she was nearly normal (for a Wiggy value of normal) - she was thrilled by her apple, although only if I picked tiny beak-sized bits off for her. It was practically "peel me a grape, good woman". But she was still in the coop when I went out.
Today, I felt there was a marked improvement. For a start, she was pacing in front of the run door. I would say she was very cheerful - perhaps it is this unseasonal sunshine. A nice dustbathe followed by a bit of sunbathing, an apple and a good bok around - what more could a Woo want?
So it's ...>fi< >fi<
Do you know, she will be six in a couple of months? Blimey.

The answer probably was a moult light on feathers but heavy on the sulk.
t is a the time of year for bad tempered hens .

It's sounding suspiciously like a moult HP. Perhaps Wiggy will drop a load more feathers - Moult 2.0 so to speak. Dory is the same, maybe it's a Woo thing.
Fancy Wigs being 6! What a grand old dame{hug&kiss}

So glad she seems to be improving HP. What a marvellous age she is. I have never had a hen over 4 years (but mine have always been hybrids). Hope she continues improving.

I haven't wanted to give you daily poop updates, because there are some things even the most ardent Woo-fans (and Godmothers) shouldn't have to put up with - however, while still splatty, the really scary liquidy poorly poops are in the past, there are feathers everywhere (excellent diagnosis, HenMums) and she is eating anything and everything again. She seems to be in a very good mood.
