I noticed the spuds have come through today; covered them pretty quick, don't want my chips frosting!

Re: Mallard's 2012 Diary
Seven inches of rain on the plot last month, but it was early frost that put everything back. Wandered round with the mobile today!
Over winter garlic and red onions still doing OK!
The wind uncovered my Chantenay carrots for me!
Untidy hilling up of spuds, but it's thick with manure!
Yu Mai Tsai (Chinese sword leaf lettuce) all year round and very hardy!
The brassica patch, tiny seedlings just right for woodies!
Waiting for the spring onions to get bigger so I can weed them out easier!
And my first crop of the season, good old rhubarb!

Signs of life and progress eh Mallard but I suspect not what you were hoping for . After struggling through Winter you really are looking for a bit of a break with the weather now.
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .

I daren't plant out my runner beans yet, so they're getting a bit out of hand!
I've planted three of my marked down cape gooseberry plants in a grow bag to stay in the tunnel.

My carrot planter seems to be paying off!
Bit of a risk but I'm trying three tomato plants outside.
I really wasn't going to do many shark's fin melon this year, but....

Hello Mallard haven't seen you for a bit - I can see now where you have been, busy on the lottie. If the japanese whatsit is bitter will you still use it - is it an acquired taste or is that one you put down to experience ? Shame as it looks a fair cropper.

If I don't use it we have three Chinese families on the plots, no doubt one of them will find a use for it!

Re: Mallard's 2012 Diary
Rearranged the furniture today!
Someone gave me a goji berry runner, but it doesn't look pleased at the move!
The shark's fin melons are sending out tendrils!
And the kiwi fruit seems to want to go for it this year!
The cape gooseberries like the sideways grow bag!
Marris peer producing big knobbly spuds!
And the parsnips seem to like the wet weather!

Re: Mallard's 2012 Diary
Things are coming along now, especially poppies and bindweed!
Two big courgettes for a chocolate cake (I didn't realise how expensive cocoa was) a few peas to go with tonight's tuna pasta, and giant zittau onions grown from seed for a jar of pickles!
My blackberries should be ready just as the bramleys are!
