There is so little to report really for the time of year. I did pick the first of the runner beans from the house garden yesterday and it looks as if they at least will give me a good crop.
Over at the veggie garden yesterday evening to dig the tatties up , my friend dug all the rogue plants up and I dug 2 rows of spuds we planted in the Spring but a poor tally compared to last year, some are a reasonable size but no chippy potatoes{cry} , we have spread them out in a dry stable to let the mud dry on them so we can brush it off before storing them, just another two rows to dig.
We finished picking the 1st row of peas and they haven't cropped too badly but the 2nd row I am not sure about, planted just 2 weeks apart they look a lot further behind. There are a few pods but still mostly flowers and I am starting to think its getting too late now for anything to come from them. The broad beans were full of flowers this year and they did eventually set but the pods are only just swelling , I have picked a few but the beans are very small inside - tasted lovely but not much on your plate. The sweetcorn look really good but no sign of flowers. The cabbage are very slow at making hearts , in fact my friend just pulled a few of the leaves off a couple of plants as she was making a stir fry and wanted to use some red cabbage. Not a single tomato on any of the bush plants that are normally loaded , we have them in tubs alongside the stable wall and the sun catches them here as a rule. Up here the season is short enough but this year I don't see how the veggies are going to catch up after such a slow start, we have bees busy doing the pollinating over the last week but can't think that the plants will have time to produce anything much.
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .

Interesting Annie, seems you are probably about 3 weeks behind 'the South'.
Great stuff!
