Well only starting my diary today.
The weather has been nice, so I made a start. Greenhouse cleaned with jeyes fluid. Broad beans planted
I have planted some lettuce seeds as well, don't know if its too cold as yet but they are in my little plastic greenhouse inside my main greenhouse, so

Re: Davina's 2013 grow our own diary
lettuce are surprisingly cold hardy - when I first got my little greenhouse (early March) and sowed seeds, we seemed to get loads of sharp frosts but I put a piece of carpet on the top overnight hoping it would help. I was convinced the lettuce were a goner and then during mild spells, the seeds started to germinate. So the greenhouse within the greenhouse will be fine but do make sure it doesn't get too hot for them when the sun comes out (even at this time of year) - it might be worth checking on them or leaving the zipper door wide open during the day.

Planted some radish in the polytunnel this morning.
Started to prepare lat years veg patch ready to move the fruit bushes onto, then we need to build a fruit cage to protect them.
Had a nice day again, hope it continues.

Warmer day today, but I had to work so no time to play out in the garden. Hopefully some of my seeds will start to germinate soon

The radishes are starting to germinate in the Polly tunnel, but nothing showing in the greenhouse as yet. Planted up the onions, leaks seeds and some spring onions. I just wish it was a bit warmer.

The radishes are coming along nicely in the PT, and I have spotted the first sign of lettuce germinating in the GH
Too cold to do nothing other than tidy up in my potting shed.

Re: Davina's 2013 grow our own diary
What a lovely day yesterday
A little update on progress so far :
Yesterday I planted my onions out, red and white, also put my broad bean plants out and instantly had to cover them as the chookies were nibbling
I earthed up my first early potatoes which are in bags. I still have some to plant so they will be not so early first earliest
Radish in PT are big enough to eat and lettuce are coming on nicely.
Planted 2 tomato plans into PT.
Moved some of the strawberry plants into PT, moved rest of the fruit into newly built fruit cage
The cabbage in PT are growing by the day and are big enough to eat
Sowed some seeds but more to be done today.
Also lovely hubby had 6 yes 6 tons of topsoil delivered so all the beds are nicely filled up
So time for breakie and out to do some more before the forecasted rain arrives.
Have a good day growers

Re: Davina's 2013 grow our own diary
that's a splended crop of cabbages there
and lots of radishes and lettuce. I'm very impressed.
And I do like your fruit cage - I would love one like that just to keep the birds out (blackbirds are the worst thieves!!!)

Re: Davina's 2013 grow our own diary
Yes LL I agree about the birds, last year I ended up with no more than a handful of blueberries
and then the chookies helped themselves to the raspberries. So hopefully this year I will get some fruit now the feathered creatures cannot get in.
I am very happy with the cabbages, they are doing very well.

Re: Davina's 2013 grow our own diary
I have 24 runner bean plants showing through in the green house
10 or so tomato plants showing
Things are starting to move now, but I understand the colder weather is making a return this weekend
I will have to spend my time either sowing seeds in the green house, or sat drinking coffee in the Polly tunnel
