I've started this thread under this section of the forum as a diary more about gardening in the tropics than specifically about growing your own fruit and veg.
First of all, we have a pretty large garden here in Chalong, Phuket, which is one of the reasons we took this particular house. As part of the rent, we have gardeners come once every 4 weeks to cut the grass and do the general donkey work. They look after the five houses in our street, and as there were six of them today, they race through the job in less than 45 minutes.
All neat and tidy now but the grass here grows so fast here, it will look like a bit of a jungle again when the arrive again next time.

Orchids
Orchids thrive here. They are cheap enough to buy (about 1.50 UKPs each) and no real problem growing them. They like their aerial roots exposed rather than in too much soil. I just put the hose pipe on the tree each morning so that a little water trickles down to the orchids.
We have placed them in their pots in the large tree in our garden to give them a natural look.
