Frugal, thrifty and alternative uses for
PETROLEUM JELLY

Using products you have around the home for other jobs

1. Remove Chewing Gum from wooden furniture

If you teenage chewers you know too well that the odd used Gum appears under chairs and tables! To remove it, rub petroleum jelly into the Gum and it will soon dissolve.

2. Pet Paw Problems

If you cat or dog seem to be suffering with sore paw pads, rubbing the jelly on to them will soften them and hopefully relieve any discomfort they may be in.

3. Door Hinges

There aren't many things more annoying than squeaky doors. Smothering Petroleum Jelly all round the hinges and working it in a little will soon put a stop to this.

4. Keeping your hands clean

Rubbing jelly into your hands before you do any dirty work will help stop any spills soaking into the skin, especially good before painting and you don't want to spend ages scrubbing your hands afterwards.

5. Making your perfume last longer

Put some jelly on your wrists and behind the ear before you spray your perfume on, this helps the aroma to last longer as it will 'stick' to the jelly.

6. Removing a stuck ring

We've all had a time where we've tried to remove a wedding or engagement ring but can't, Rub some Jelly onto the finger and slowly move the ring around so it gets underneath. After a few moments, the ring should come away quite smoothly.

7. Ants on Pet Food

Circle you Cat or Dog bowl with Petroleum Jelly to distract Ants and other insects using it as a fast food Restaurant!

8. For Car Batteries

Undo the Electrical Leads on your Battery, clean the heads and replace. Afterwards 'splodge' the jelly all over the connectors. This will prevent rusting and give you better starting power, especially in winter weather.

9. Frozen Dustbin Lids

Have you been out to put something in your Dustbin on a freezing January day and can't get the lid off because of the Ice? When you know the weather is going to be bad, spread some Jelly around the rim of the bin and it won't freeze.

10. Keeping Paint Tins sealed

If you have some White Gloss paint and don't use it all in one go, but now and again, after replacing the lid, rub in some Petroleum Jelly into the rim and it will seal the tin airtight.
